The session will provide a practical, honest introduction to AI, helping charity-sector organisations understand its potential and limitations.
Inside the event
AI is changing how we work, but what does it really mean for charities? How can we use it effectively while navigating concerns around privacy, ethics and reliability?
Join us for a practical, accessible 90-minute session designed for charity-sector organisations. Whether you're already experimenting with AI or unsure where to begin, this session will help you cut through the noise, understand the risks and identify opportunities to use AI responsibly.
What we'll cover
- **AI in plain English:** Understand where AI is heading and how tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Copilot compare.
- **The honest conversation:** Explore concerns around bias, consent, environmental impact and ethical use.
- **Protecting your data:** Understand where your information goes and the differences between cloud-based and open-source AI.
- **AI in practice:** Watch a live demonstration solving a real-world problem and hear what's been built, what it cost and what it saved.
- **Taking the first steps:** Learn when to trust AI, discover practical uses and take away a starter AI policy to adapt for your organisation.
Who is this for?
Charity staff, HR and operations teams, managers, trustees and frontline workers. No technical knowledge or previous AI experience is needed. Bring your questions and challenges for an open, practical discussion.
Meet your facilitator: Gerald Vanderpuye
The session will be led by **Gerald Vanderpuye, tech and social entrepreneur and co-founder of Impact Brixton**, an innovation hub supporting entrepreneurs and people working to create social change.
Gerald brings a hands-on, entrepreneurial perspective to exploring how technology can solve real-world problems. His approach combines curiosity, practical experimentation and learning by doing.
What you'll take away
By the end of the session, you'll have
- A clearer understanding of what AI can and can't do.
- Practical guidance on data privacy and responsible use.
- A framework for making informed, ethical choices.
- A starter AI policy for your organisation.
- One practical idea to try in your work the same week.
