What to look forward to
Kevin Hartnett, author of *The Proof in the Code*, will moderate mathematicians Tristan Buckmaster (NYU), Bryna Kra (Northwestern), Michael Hopkins (Harvard), and Jacopo Borga (MIT) in a discussion of how AI may reshape mathematical research, education, and understanding. The panel will launch a planned MITHIC and SERC series on AI’s effects on personal and professional life.
Inside the event
AI can now help solve big open problems in math. How will AI tools affect research communities, students, and human understanding of mathematical results and theories? Will AI destroy the field as we know it, or bring about a new golden age of mathematics? Kevin Hartnett, author of The Proof in the Code, will moderate a panel discussion among mathematicians: Tristan Buckmaster (NYU), Bryna Kra (Northwestern), Michael Hopkins (Harvard), and Jacopo Borga (MIT). This event, co-sponsored by the Department of Mathematics, is the first of a planned series hosted by MITHIC and SERC exploring how AI is reshaping our personal and professional lives. The first 40 MIT students at the event will receive a copy of “The Proof in the Code” by Kevin Hartnett.
