The gathering

What to look forward to

Robotics engineer and Takamori Robot founder and CEO Joseph Casebeer will lead hands-on programming demos with H.I.R.O. robots, exploring microcontrollers, sensors, control loops, and physical AI. Software and ML engineers will also get a practical roadmap to full-stack robotics and setting up a home lab.

From the organizer

Inside the event

Joseph Casebeer brings a few H.I.R.O. robots to Thinkspace and takes the room through hands-on programming demos on his full stack robotics platform. He'll also cover the roadmap to becoming a full stack robotics engineer and how to set up a home lab.

The jump into robotics from a pure software background isn't a simple one. There are layers all the way down to the electronics that developers don't usually deal with, and they matter in a robotics job. This session is for developers who want to understand how a robot works end to end.

What you'll learn

  • What runs on the microcontroller versus the Linux computer
  • How sensors and control loops fit together
  • What "physical AI" means on small hardware
  • The roadmap to becoming a full stack robotics engineer, and how to set up a home lab

Who should attend

  • Software and ML engineers who want to move into robotics
  • Engineers who want a cheap testbed for control, state estimation and multi-robot ideas before moving to expensive hardware
  • Teams planning hack weeks or internal robotics training

H.I.R.O. is a low-cost platform for learning and prototyping, not industrial hardware.

About the instructor

Joseph Casebeer, Founder and CEO, Takamori Robot

Joseph is an engineer who loves building robots and tech solutions that help people. He has been building robots since high school. He loves robotics because it's one field where the end product can look like anything and can be designed to solve any problem. He started Takamori Robot to share that love with the world, under the mantra "Robots are fun, and exploration is play!" He believes robotics shouldn't be a joyless pursuit of cookie cutter humanoids, machines that cause mass layoffs, or dystopian DoD contracts. So he built Takamori Robot as a toybox for everyone who thinks they can build a better future, and more awesome robots.
