What to look forward to

Fawcett will host a frank, feminist conversation about how AI will shape the future for women. The discussion will explore what these changes could mean for women and society.

Inside the event

AI is already shaping the world around us - from our jobs and pay to healthcare, public services, what we see online and the decisions made about us.

And here's the problem: AI isn't neutral.

It is being built by men and used in a world that is already unequal. to explore what AI means for women when it is being built by men, and used in a world that is already unequal.

If we aren't careful, AI won't fix those inequalities - it could automate them, reproduce them and make them harder to challenge.

Fawcett has been asking what this means for gender equality. Now we want to get more people talking about it.

Join Fawcett's Local Groups Network for a frank and accessible conversation about AI, women and power.

We'll be asking:

What happens when gender bias gets built into technology?

Could AI make existing inequalities worse?

What does the AI revolution mean for women's jobs, pay and opportunities?

What does it mean for our safety, privacy and rights?

Who gets to decide how these technologies are designed and used?

And what should feminists be demanding from the people building and regulating AI?

You do not need to be an AI expert. You don't need a technical background. And you definitely don't need to have all the answers.

You might be fascinated by AI. You might be worried about it. You might think it's all a bit overhyped. Or you might simply be wondering what on earth any of it has to do with feminism.

Come along. Bring your questions. Bring your curiosity.

We'll share what we know, challenge some assumptions and think together about what a feminist response to AI needs to look like.

Who’s it for?

This event is for Fawcett Local Group members and anyone interested in joining or starting a Local Group.

Already involved, or thinking about joining? We'd love you to join us and bring a friend, family member or colleague along! If they care about women’s rights, gender equality or the impact AI is having on our lives, we want them in the conversation too.

You don’t need to be an AI expert. We want to bring people together to ask difficult questions, challenge assumptions and talk frankly about what AI means for the fight for gender equality.

Not a member of a Local Group but interested in coming along? Get in touch at localgroups@fawcettsociety.org.uk by Friday 23 October and we’ll let you know how to join us.

AI is changing the world. Women need to be part of deciding what happens next.

This event is organised by Fawcett's Local Groups Network – our volunteer-led groups taking the fight against misogyny into communities across the UK.
