What to look forward to

On October 17, The AI Collective Taipei and Major League Hacking will host a Hack for Humanity day, where developers, designers, researchers, students, and community experts will prototype practical solutions for family support, elder care, misinformation, and disaster resilience. Teams will use local data and Lovable credits to turn community challenges into working prototypes, with networking, a problem briefing, a three-hour hack, and demos.

Inside the event

Build for the people and places around you On October 17, The AI Collective Taipei is joining Hack for Humanity, a global initiative that brings communities together to build technology for real human needs. For this Taiwan chapter, we’ll focus on local challenges that affect everyday life. From supporting families and caregivers to navigating disasters and protecting the information ecosystem, with the operational help of Major League Hacking, we’ll spend the day turning local problems into practical prototypes. Whether you’re a developer, designer, researcher, domain expert, student, founder, or simply someone who cares about Taiwan’s future, you’re invited to build with us. You don’t need to arrive with a team or a fully formed idea, we’ll help you find collaborators and a problem worth solving. Schedule 12:00–13:00 · Doors open, check-in and lunch 13:00–13:30 · Opening, Lovable credits and challenge briefing 13:30–16:30 · Hack 16:30–16:50 · Deck submission and room changeover 16:50–18:00 · Pitches, voting and judges' remarks 18:00–19:00 · Networking The goal is not to build a perfect product in one day. It’s to understand a meaningful problem, create something useful, and leave with a prototype that can continue growing. Taiwan’s four challenges tracks Reversing the Birthrate Decline Family Support Systems Taiwan has one of the lowest fertility rates in the world. For many families, the challenge is not simply whether to have children—it’s whether life with children feels manageable. Parents often struggle to find reliable information about childcare subsidies, locate available public preschools, and balance work, caregiving, and family life. How might we make family support easier to discover, understand, and access? Potential data sources:Ministry of the Interior population and household statistics Ministry of Education preschool locations and vacancy data Ministry of Health and Welfare childcare subsidy open data 2. Tech for a Super-Aged Society Long-Term Care Taiwan is entering a super-aged society, with more than 20% of the population expected to be aged 65 or older by 2026. Caregivers are under increasing pressure, while many older adults face isolation, mobility challenges, and difficulty navigating long-term care services. How might technology help older adults live with greater independence—and help caregivers feel less alone? Potential data sources: Ministry of Health and Welfare Long-Term Care 2.0 service data Ministry of the Interior aging index maps Taiwan National Health Insurance open statistics 3. Civic Tech & Fighting Misinformation Cognitive Resilience Taiwan’s information environment is fast-moving and increasingly complex. Misinformation spreads daily through LINE, social media, and online communities, affecting public trust and civic life. How might we help people assess information, understand public issues, and participate more confidently in society? Potential data sources:Cofacts(真的假的)open API Central Election Commission voting and turnout data g0v civic datasets 4. Climate & Disaster Resilience Typhoons, Floods & Earthquakes Taiwan is highly exposed to typhoons, torrential rain, flooding, and earthquakes. During a crisis, timely and understandable information can save lives. How might we help people prepare before disasters happen and make better decisions when they do? Potential data sources:Central Weather Administration APIs Water Resources Agency flood sensors National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction warning feeds Build with Lovable Lovable is the official Taiwan partner for this hackathon. Participants will receive Lovable credits to help turn their ideas into working prototypes quickly. Whether you’re an experienced developer or building your first product, Lovable gives teams a way to move from concept to usable interface and testable idea in a short amount of time. Bring a problem you care about. We’ll help you build a first version. Who should join? Developers and software engineers Designers and product thinkers Data scientists and researchers Students and first-time hackers Civic innovators and social entrepreneurs People working in healthcare, education, climate, public policy, or community services You can participate as an individual or join a team on the day. All experience levels are welcome. Judges

Judging criteria Scores come from two places and are combined after the final pitch. Judges — 70%. Our panel scores every team live on five criteria: Problem fit (10%) — a real problem in the chosen track, and the team understands who has it Impact potential (25%) — who benefits if this shipped, and whether there's a plausible path beyond today Prototype execution (25%) — does something actually work, judged against three hours of build time Use of open data (15%) — a real Taiwan dataset, not mock data Clarity of pitch (10%) — problem, solution and value landed inside 90 seconds Audience — 30%. Every checked-in attendee gets 3 votes and cannot vote for their own team. Voting opens with the first pitch and closes immediately after the last one. The link will be shared at the event. Winners will be picked cross-tracks with a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Ties are resolved by the higher Impact score, then by audience votes.
