A two-hour workshop in partnership with The Marketing Society will introduce the marketing engineer role and explore how marketing and technical expertise intersect.
Inside the event
A marketing engineer is the person on the team who can spot a workflow worth automating and build AI agents to automate it.
Recently, The Wall Street Journal ran a story titled The Marketing Engineers Are Here. It reported that teams without these "builder-strategists are going to fall behind." Some US companies are now paying as much as $300,000 a year for this coveted role.
We'll show you how a marketing engineer combines basic marketing knowledge with systems thinking as you rebuild the positioning statement agent we built with the London School of Economics. You'll rebuild this agent in the popular node-based automation platform n8n.
Positioning shapes what customers think when they think of you. That might sound simple, but choosing how to position a product is one of the most important decisions you will make. Our agent helps you complete a positioning statement. You'll leave the workshop with a working copy of this agent and the confidence to start building your own marketing agents.
The workshop is limited to 12 people, so Dino and Lee can sit with you while you build.
Workshop agenda
- **The totality of marketing:** what we mean when we say marketing
- **More with less:** why marketing teams are expected to do more with less
- **Automation as a growth engine:** why you need people on the team who can spot workflows worth automating and build the agents to automate them
- **The role of the marketing engineer:** American companies are already paying as much as $300,000 a year for this role
- **Basic marketing + systems thinking:** the two skills a marketing engineer combines
- **We are not machines:** why a top-down approach to automation won't work
- **A glimpse into the marketing department of the future:** a report from Lee on Into-it's AI marketing department, which it is building in partnership with the London School of Economics. Marketing Week called it "a glimpse into the future of how marketing teams will function."
- **Positioning and the positioning statement explained:** we'll use the University of Virginia structure of target, brand, category, point of difference and reason to believe. For example: "Among snackers, Snickers is the brand of chocolate bar that satisfies hunger because it is packed with peanuts."
- **We'll rebuild Into-it's positioning statement agent together:** using any of the big AI models plugged into n8n, we'll rebuild it one node at a time

- Consultants and freelancers who want a repeatable positioning method they can bring to clients.
What to bring

- **An account with any of the big AI models:** Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini. We'll show you how to connect it to n8n as you build your positioning-statement agent.
- **A free n8n account:** you'll build your agent in n8n. Set it up before the session and we'll show you the rest.
What's included

From The Marketing Society
Rachel Letham, Global Head of Marketing and Brand at The Marketing Society, said: “AI is changing what it means to be a marketer, and we want our Members to feel confident experimenting with it, not overwhelmed by it. That’s why we’re working with In The Loop to show just how easy it can be to build your own AI agents. I joined one of their workshops myself and have been building agents ever since. It’s genuinely exciting to see what’s possible.”
