How to play Cipher

Four slots. One secret code.

Example

The first circle is exact. Triangle and square are misplaced; the extra circle has no match. In play, you see only the totals.

Crack a code of four symbols. Pick from six shapes. Symbols can repeat.
The starting clue is free. Exact means the right symbol in the right slot. Misplaced means the right symbol in another slot.
Feedback gives totals, not which slots are correct. Each occurrence counts once.
Tap a slot, then a shape. Submit your code and use the feedback to narrow it down.

Controls & scoring

Aim for six guesses, but keep going if you need more. A hint reveals and locks one slot. Fewest hints, then fewest guesses wins. First completion counts.

Keyboard: A–F or 1–6 selects a symbol; arrows select slots; Enter checks the code; Backspace clears a slot. Daily guesses need a connection. Progress saves on this browser when storage is available.

When is there a new puzzle?

A fresh puzzle becomes available at midnight in your timezone. You can also browse past puzzles or try practice puzzles.

Your first completed result counts for the puzzle's leaderboard. Retries improve your personal best.
