This is an enterprise rollout of OpenAI’s existing Frontier agent platform, not a new model or product announcement. ADNOC intends to use it across operational, investment and commercial decisions; efficiency and productivity remain goals, with no results reported. UAE-based inference infrastructure is part of the setup, and G42 is involved through Inception42. The National identifies ADNOC as Frontier’s first energy-company deployer; the agreement extends an ADNOC–G42 AI relationship that includes their 2019 AIQ joint venture.
Frontier launched Feb. 5, with HP, Intuit, Oracle, State Farm, Thermo Fisher and Uber among its first adopters.
ADNOC and G42 formed AIQ in 2019; ADNOC owns 60% and G42 40% of the oil-and-gas AI product venture.
The National describes ADNOC as the first energy company to deploy Frontier, a platform-specific distinction rather than a claim about energy-sector AI adoption overall.
ADNOC has signed an agreement with OpenAI and G42 to bring OpenAI’s Frontier platform across its operations. The deployment will use GPT models running on UAE-based infrastructure, with the stated aim of connecting operational, investment and commercial decisions—not just adding an AI tool for one business function.
G42 signed through its subsidiary Inception42. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi’s crown prince and chairman of its Executive Council, witnessed the agreement. He met OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman in Abu Dhabi on November 2, 2026.
The project’s stated purpose is to integrate AI across ADNOC’s operations, making decisions in its operational, investment and commercial activities more connected. Improving efficiency and productivity are the intended benefits. Those are goals for the deployment, rather than measured results from its use.
Frontier is OpenAI’s enterprise platform for building, deploying and managing AI agents. OpenAI launched it on February 5, with HP, Intuit, Oracle, State Farm, Thermo Fisher and Uber among its first adopters. The ADNOC agreement is therefore a deployment of an existing platform, not the launch of a new model or product.
The National describes ADNOC as the first energy company to deploy Frontier. That distinction concerns adoption of this particular OpenAI platform; ADNOC’s work with G42 on AI predates the agreement by several years.
In 2019, ADNOC and G42 agreed to establish AIQ, a joint venture to develop and commercialise AI products for the oil and gas industry. ADNOC held 60% and G42 held 40%. That earlier venture focused on developing industry products; the Frontier agreement now brings an enterprise platform into ADNOC’s own operations, with a stated remit spanning several kinds of business decisions.
