Airbnb is extending AI across trip planning and service: its search tools turn typed or spoken requests into amenity filters, while saved-home comparisons summarize features and reviews. Customer-support chat now works in more than 50 languages, with phone voice support planned, but the commercial test is whether better discovery preserves bookings; CEO Brian Chesky said Airbnb will iterate over the coming months. The fall rollout also adds location-specific services, including BabyQuip rentals in more than 60 U.S. cities starting in November.
AI search covers homes, experiences and services; a search for “baby” can surface filters for cribs, playgrounds, books and toys.
Wish-list comparisons put home features and reviews side by side, helping travelers assess saved options.
BabyQuip will offer baby-gear delivery and setup in more than 60 U.S. cities from November, with a 10% discount for Airbnb guests.
Airbnb’s fall update reaches beyond finding a rental: AI customer-support chat now covers more than 50 languages, with phone-based voice support planned. TechRadar detailed those additions on October 15, alongside November baby-gear rentals. They build on AI search and property comparisons described in September, connecting discovery, shortlisting and more of the logistics around a stay.
The search feature starts with a typed or spoken description rather than a traveler assembling the right combination of checkboxes. TechRadar describes searches across homes, experiences and services. TechCrunch’s September 30 coverage explained that users can switch on an AI search toggle for property discovery.
AI then helps translate that request into narrower choices. Entering “baby,” for example, can bring up filters for cribs, playgrounds, children’s books and toys. The interface still uses filters; the change is that a broad need can surface relevant amenities without requiring travelers to find each category themselves.
The next layer works on the results and shortlist. Airbnb uses AI to highlight relevant home features in search results. For properties saved to a wish list, it adds side-by-side comparisons and summaries of key features, with reviews also part of the comparison tools. Search helps produce candidates; the comparison feature helps weigh the saved options.
For Airbnb, a more capable search box also has to work as a booking tool. CEO Brian Chesky told TechCrunch that the company would iterate quickly over the coming months. He framed the difficulty as preserving the conversion rate—the share of people who go on to book—not simply getting AI search to function.
Not every discovery feature relies on AI. The update also adds a map of connections’ past and upcoming trips. Opening a trip shows where that person stayed and which experiences they chose. Users can opt not to share their trips, a privacy control attached to a feature that makes travel plans visible to others.
Airbnb is also building neighborhood pages from guest reviews and other sources, offering suggestions for places to eat and things to do. Those pages organize information around a location, while the trip map organizes it around people a traveler knows.
The October details put dates and locations on parts of the service expansion. Starting in November, guests in more than 60 U.S. cities can rent baby gear through BabyQuip, including delivery and setup. Airbnb guests receive a 10% discount. That is a scheduled service rollout, distinct from the search tools already described in September.
Other additions depend on where guests travel. Rinse will provide laundry pickup and delivery in select U.S. cities. Grocery delivery is expanding to Europe, alongside meal delivery from local restaurants. Location-specific offerings include ski and snowboard rentals in the French Alps and boat rentals in South Florida; these are not services promised for every Airbnb destination.
