Anthropic released a Claude for Nonprofits plugin on October 26, 2026, giving nonprofit teams tools for grant proposals, hiring, marketing and organizational policies. Built with about 30 nonprofits, the release comes alongside plans to extend Claude Corps through a Taproot partnership offering experienced pro bono consultants for shorter projects, rather than only embedded fellows.
The update targets an audience already using Claude at substantial scale. Anthropic says more than 25,000 nonprofits use it, and more than 75% of those organizations have fewer than 10 Claude seats. The company says nonprofits identified two obstacles beyond cost: too few people with AI skills and too few tools designed around their work.
From a grant opportunity to a first draft
The plugin combines skills—task-specific instructions for Claude—with connectors to outside tools. Anthropic says fundraisers, operations leads and chiefs of staff tested early versions on real work this fall. The design group included small regional teams and international organizations working across education, health, humanitarian response and other fields.
Fundraising support covers several steps, not just writing an appeal. According to Anthropic, Claude can research donors and open grants with cited sources, break down a request for proposals into eligibility rules and requirements, and draft a proposal from the organization’s own material. Grant reports include sources for their figures.
- Marketing: plan campaigns around team capacity, draft in the organization’s voice and review content before publication.
- Hiring: build job posts, interview guides and scoring rubrics, then plan a new employee’s first 90 days.
- Board work: identify missing skills, prepare outreach to prospective members and assemble orientation materials or meeting presentations.
Our teams write their own proposals, so through the design partner circle we asked for a thorough reviewer and better support for go/no-go decisions. We have been very impressed with the result. It strengthens our proposals while keeping the decisions with our people.

An organization map comes before the task
The setup process asks where an organization keeps donor records, grant files, finances and policies. With memory enabled, Claude saves that map for each person. Anthropic says every other skill in the plugin reads the map first, so staff do not have to keep directing it to the same sources. It also offers to connect tools it cannot yet reach.
A separate skill lets staff ask whether a proposed use of Claude is allowed under their organization’s AI policy. That guidance depends on the organization’s own rules. Anthropic is also scheduling an administrator webinar on data handling and AI-use policies for November 10, followed by a staff session on November 12.
Short projects alongside embedded fellows
Claude Corps is placing 1,000 early-career fellows in at least 400 U.S. nonprofits, according to Anthropic. The planned Taproot extension would add experienced consultants for shorter, project-based assignments. That is a different form of assistance from placing fellows alongside a nonprofit’s team; Anthropic describes the partnership as planned, not already operating.
Montgomery County Food Bank, one of the design partners, illustrates the operational work involved. President and CEO Scott Burns told The Associated Press that his team has used Claude for food pickup and delivery scheduling and donor communications. He expects two Claude Corps fellows to help tackle its outdated inventory system and volunteer scheduling.
