The proposed arrangement would give Anthropic additional computing capacity at Nscale’s Monarch data center campus in West Virginia, extending an already substantial supplier relationship. Bloomberg reported the talks on October 19, but the roughly $45 billion deal remains unfinalized and could change; it would be a purchase of computing services, not an investment. Nscale’s IPO filing separately lists existing Anthropic infrastructure agreements worth up to about $44.6 billion, making the distinction between signed commitments and the new proposal important as investors scrutinize AI infrastructure spending.

The $44.6 billion figure refers to existing agreements listed in Nscale’s planned IPO filing, not the new proposal.
Anthropic and Nscale are discussing another computing-power deal worth about $45 billion, Bloomberg reported on October 19, citing people familiar with the negotiations. The proposed agreement concerns a second facility at Nscale’s Monarch data center campus in West Virginia, putting another large purchase under discussion between companies that already have substantial infrastructure agreements.
The companies may be close to announcing the transaction, according to TechCrunch’s account of Bloomberg’s reporting. But the sources cautioned that negotiations were continuing and details could change. The headline price is therefore a potential agreement value, not a purchase the companies have finalized.
Nscale, an AI cloud computing company, would supply computing power to Anthropic, the company behind Claude. This would be a customer-supplier agreement for computing services, rather than an investment in either company. Bloomberg described the proposed transaction as a second major deal between the businesses.
The existing relationship is documented separately. Bloomberg cited a regulatory filing for Nscale’s planned initial public offering that listed infrastructure agreements with Anthropic worth as much as about $44.6 billion. Those agreements are already in place; the additional facility is the subject of the new negotiations.
If completed, the purchase would join a series of large computing deals Anthropic has struck over the past year. TechCrunch noted that heavy AI infrastructure spending has worried some investors, who question whether companies are committing too much money for too little profit. That concern surrounds the spending boom; it is not a finding about this proposed contract’s returns.
TechCrunch contacted Anthropic and Nscale for comment. Neither company’s response appeared in its published article.
