Anthropic opened Claude for Google Workspace in public beta on October 6, 2026, for all paid Claude plans, giving users two ways to create and edit Docs, Sheets, and Slides: an in-file sidebar or connectors in Claude chat. The integration can target selected content and use existing file permissions, while default approval cards keep edits under user review. For teams, the rollout also brings admin deployment controls and, on Enterprise, existing compliance and audit features—making permission setup and review preferences practical factors in adoption.
In Docs, users can accept or dismiss individual suggested rewrites; “Accept all edits” lets Claude proceed without pausing for approval.
In Sheets, Claude can create formulas, pivot tables, charts, and tabs, and use Python to transform data before writing it back.
Anthropic says Claude can check Slides for overlaps, off-slide content, and hard-to-read text, but does not guarantee every generated slide will be correct.
Claude can now work directly in an open Google document, spreadsheet or presentation, rather than leave users to copy its answers into their files. Anthropic launched Claude for Google Workspace on October 6, 2026, in public beta for all paid Claude plans. Alongside the sidebar add-on, new beta connectors let users create and edit Google files from Claude chat.
The add-on opens Claude in a sidebar beside the file. Anthropic says it can read the document, spreadsheet or deck, recognize selected text, cells or slides, and make changes in place. That lets a request target a specific passage or range rather than the whole file.
In Docs, Claude can fix a sentence or restyle a heading without changing surrounding formatting. For larger rewrites, it can offer suggestion cards that highlight the passage to be changed. Users can apply or dismiss each card, keeping the proposed revision separate from the document until they choose.
Sheets gets formulas, pivot tables, native charts and new tabs. For data cleaning or combining datasets, Claude can pull a range into Python, a programming language, and write the results back. Anthropic describes starting with an empty sheet and attached source files to build a budget-versus-actuals report with team tabs and a summary chart.
In Slides, Claude can build slides using the deck’s existing layouts and themes. It can then check for overlapping elements, content running off a slide and hard-to-read text. Those are checks Anthropic says the tool can perform, not a guarantee that every generated slide will be correct.
In the default “Ask before edits” mode, each change appears as an approval card with a summary, and Claude waits before applying it. “Accept all edits” lets Claude work through the task without pausing. The choice is between reviewing each proposed change and allowing the task to proceed uninterrupted.
The connectors provide the reverse route: start in Claude, paste a Google file link or request a new file. On supported setups, the file opens in a pane beside the conversation. Anthropic recommends this route for new files or work spanning several files. Access follows the user’s existing Google sharing permissions.
Admins can deploy the add-on to a domain or selected groups. Signing in brings the account’s existing models, connectors and skills into the sidebar. On Enterprise plans, Anthropic says the Compliance API, customer-managed encryption keys and OpenTelemetry audit export also apply to the add-on.
