On October 26, US stocks recovered some ground as investors reacted to Anthropic’s prospective IPO, but the chip rally did not erase October’s losses: the Philadelphia semiconductor index remained down 12.2% for the month. Anthropic’s filing put rapid growth and steep losses in focus, while its listing is still ahead. The market’s next test comes this week, as major technology companies report results and the Federal Reserve and economic data offer more clues about AI spending’s returns and financing costs.
The Philadelphia semiconductor index rose 2.8% on October 26, outpacing the S&P 500 and Nasdaq.
Moomoo reported Anthropic’s first-half 2026 revenue at $16.3 billion, up about 1,300% year over year; Reuters did not provide a revenue figure.
Photonic-equipment makers Lumentum and Coherent gained about 8% and 6%, while CoreWeave erased earlier declines.
AI-related stocks helped lift Wall Street on October 26, 2026, as investors found fresh encouragement in Anthropic’s IPO filing, Reuters reported. Semiconductor shares outpaced the major indexes, and AI suppliers joined the advance. But the rebound left chip stocks well below their level at the start of a difficult month.
The Philadelphia semiconductor index climbed 2.8%, a stronger gain than either the S&P 500 or Nasdaq Composite. It was still down 12.2% for October. Chipmakers and related companies, widely viewed as beneficiaries of AI investment, helped drive the session’s gains.
The buying extended beyond chips. Lumentum and Coherent, which make photonic products, gained about 8% and 6%, respectively, placing them among the S&P 500’s strongest performers. CoreWeave erased earlier declines as sentiment improved following the filing. Technology led the S&P 500’s 11 major sectors with a 1.5% advance, while most megacap and growth stocks also finished higher.
The S&P 500 gained 53.09 points to close at 7,676.77.
The Nasdaq Composite gained 214.04 points to close at 26,169.38.
The Dow gained 146.42 points to close at 52,361.58.
Anthropic’s filing for a U.S. initial public offering disclosed rapid revenue growth alongside steep losses. That combination put both demand and the high cost of developing AI in front of investors. The company is pursuing a listing while volatility has prompted other companies to delay offerings, slowing what had been a lively autumn IPO calendar.
Moomoo News SG put a number on the sales expansion: its market wrap said Anthropic disclosed first-half 2026 revenue of $16.3 billion, up about 1,300% from a year earlier. Those figures come from Moomoo’s account; Reuters described the growth without giving an amount. The offering itself remains prospective, rather than a completed stock-market debut.
The advance followed consecutive weekly declines for the S&P 500 and Nasdaq. AI-linked investments have faced pressure this month as investors question whether debt-funded spending can be justified when borrowing costs are rising. Anthropic’s filing improved the mood on Monday, but upcoming announcements will offer other evidence about the economics behind the industry’s expansion.
More than a third of S&P 500 companies are scheduled to report earnings during the week, including Alphabet, Microsoft and Amazon. Investors will examine those results for signs that heavy AI investment is producing growth. The Federal Reserve’s policy statement is due Wednesday, followed by economic growth and inflation readings on Thursday.
JP Powers, chief investment officer at RWA Wealth Partners, credited the Anthropic release with Monday’s more optimistic tone. He also warned of a possible whipsaw if the week’s other announcements send conflicting signals, and said the reception when Anthropic actually lists will be important. His caution separates a favorable trading session from a settled judgment on the offering.
