Anthropic Signs Cambridge Lease With Room for 120 Workstations

Anthropic has signed a long-term lease for a 24,000-square-foot office at One Kendall Square in Cambridge. The two-floor space gives the AI company a larger local workplace, with room for 120 workstations, and marks a concrete expansion beyond its current Central Square coworking base.

Anthropic intends to move into the new office early next year. Its current Cambridge team consists of about 50 employees working from a WeWork facility in Central Square, according to The Harvard Crimson. The signed lease changes the company’s physical footprint now; the relocation remains a stated plan.

Cambridge’s research ecosystem was the draw

Daniela Amodei, Anthropic’s president and co-founder, said the decision was influenced by Cambridge’s proximity to life-science researchers, universities and technology institutions. Her explanation puts the office in a district valued for scientific and academic connections, rather than presenting the lease as a generic real-estate expansion.

“We’re excited to grow our team alongside the scientists, universities, and institutions tackling some of the world’s most important problems.”

A local commitment with broader expectations

Amodei also said more than one million people across Massachusetts use Anthropic’s products. That figure is a company executive’s statement. Separately, Governor Maura Healey said the office will create good-paying jobs and help Massachusetts continue to grow with technology.

For Anthropic, the immediate result is a signed, larger home in Cambridge and a planned move next year. The company’s stated case for the location rests on the people and institutions around it—an argument the new office will begin to test once it opens.
