Apple is separating Siri AI’s software reach from the premium box: the beta also runs on second-generation and newer Apple TV 4K devices, while the fourth-generation model adds room-scale microphones for hands-free use. Conversational search and playback questions are therefore an OS-level feature, but setup requires tvOS 27.2 and an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad belonging to the Home app’s home owner. The $299 hardware upgrade also brings an A19 chip, AV1 decoding and expanded HomePod surround sound.
The beta supports English in the U.S., Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and the UK; personal-context requests need a paired compatible device.
The fourth-generation Apple TV 4K costs $299 in the U.S.; pre-orders began October 13, 2026, and availability starts November 13.
Apple claims the A19 delivers up to 50% better CPU performance and twice the GPU performance of the previous generation; its AV1 decoder is designed to reduce streaming bandwidth.
Apple introduced its fourth-generation Apple TV 4K on October 13, 2026, pairing conversational entertainment search with three built-in microphones for hands-free control. The box costs $299 in the U.S., with pre-orders opening that day and availability beginning November 13. But its headline assistant, Siri AI, also supports older Apple TV 4K models.
Apple describes Siri AI as a new version of its assistant powered by the next generation of Apple Intelligence. On the TV, search becomes a full-screen conversation: asking which Apple TV shows won Emmy Awards can return poster art and suggestions for further browsing, rather than ending with a single answer.
During playback, Apple says viewers can ask follow-up questions about filming locations or whether a show is appropriate for a teenager. Answers appear in a compact overlay instead of taking over the screen. With a paired Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone, the assistant can also use personal context to fulfill a request such as playing a show someone recommended.
The software reaches beyond the new hardware. Siri AI is available in beta on second-generation and newer Apple TV 4K models. At launch, it supports English in the U.S., Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and the UK.
There are setup requirements beyond owning a compatible TV box. Apple specifies tvOS 27.2 and requires the home's owner in the Home app to have an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad with current software. Siri AI must be enabled and set to a supported language; personal-context requests require a paired compatible device.
The new microphones are designed to pick up voices from across the room. Apple says echo cancellation separates the user's voice from background sound so that “Siri” or “Hey Siri” can be recognized while audio is playing. That makes the hardware change about how viewers address the assistant, not simply which searches it can perform.
The A19 chip brings company-claimed gains of up to 50 percent in CPU performance and up to twice the GPU performance of the previous generation. It also includes a dedicated AV1 video decoder, which Apple says enables high-quality streaming with less bandwidth. The Siri Remote adds Find My support, Precision Finding and an option to play a sound when misplaced.
For home theater, the fourth-generation box supports four-speaker surround sound using HomePod mini 2 or second-generation HomePod speakers. Front and rear speaker pairs must match. Apple says the speakers recognize their positions in the room, allowing audio timing and levels to be calibrated automatically rather than requiring viewers to adjust those settings themselves.
As a home hub, the box adds Apple Intelligence-generated descriptions of camera activity and summarized notifications. A compatible doorbell can put a notification on the TV, letting viewers see and speak with a visitor or control an accessory such as a door lock. Siri AI can also control accessories and switch home scenes on or off hands-free.
Apple's privacy design includes Secure Exclaves, protected processing areas that handle microphone data separately from the rest of the system. The company says data processed there cannot be accessed by tvOS, apps, the user or Apple. Siri requests can use on-device processing or Private Cloud Compute; Apple says cloud-processed data is neither stored nor made accessible to Apple or anyone else.
