Event Cinemas has added a ChatGPT app that connects film discovery with screening searches and seat reservations, positioning the assistant as another place for customers to plan a cinema outing. The October 22, 2026 launch also advances parent company EVT’s aim to make its brands visible where customers seek ideas. Event Cinemas calls itself the first Australian cinema chain to launch in ChatGPT, but it has not clarified whether customers complete payment inside the assistant.
The app can take an open-ended prompt such as “what’s on at the movies tonight?” and carry the customer toward reserving seats.
Event Cinemas’ first-in-Australia description is the company’s claim, while Variety Australia reported the integration was available to Australian moviegoers on October 21.
The announcement does not say where payment occurs, so booking through a ChatGPT conversation does not confirm in-chat checkout.
Australians can now use ChatGPT to discover films, check Event Cinemas screening times and book tickets. The cinema chain has launched an app within the assistant, bringing those steps into a single conversation. In its October 22, 2026 announcement, Event Cinemas confirmed the app was live, offering another route for customers planning a trip to the movies.
The company gives a simple starting example: “what’s on at the movies tonight?” That request does not require the customer to have picked a film. The app is intended to carry that initial interest through to reserving seats, rather than serve only people who already know which session they want.
Event Cinemas describes itself in its press release as the first Australian cinema chain to launch an app in ChatGPT. Variety Australia covered the launch on October 21, describing the integration as available to Australian moviegoers.
More and more people are turning to AI-powered conversations to plan their next outing. We want Event Cinemas to be the easiest cinema to find and to book within those experiences. Being first in Australia reflects our focus on adapting to changing customer behaviours and making the path from deciding on a film to sitting in the cinema as simple as possible.

The launch also serves a stated business goal beyond simplifying a booking. Parent company EVT says it wants its brands to be visible and accessible wherever customers seek inspiration and information. The cinema app puts that goal into the conversation where someone is considering an outing.
One practical distinction remains unresolved: the announcement does not specify where final payment happens. Its description of booking through a conversation should not be read as confirmation that checkout is completed entirely inside ChatGPT.
