Globus Medical Acquires Higgs Boson Health for Patient-Journey Surgical Intelligence

Globus Medical is positioning surgical intelligence as a system that follows patients before and after a procedure, not simply a feature used during one. Its acquisition of Higgs Boson Health is meant to add AI-driven care-experience software and technical talent to that strategy.

Globus announced the acquisition August 26. Higgs Boson Health is a Durham, North Carolina-based digital healthcare experience company incubated out of Duke University.

The intended system spans an episode of care

Higgs Boson develops software intended to improve patient and provider experience across the full episode of care. Globus plans to bring its software developers and AI scientists into the company, with the stated aim of creating a seamless digital healthcare environment.

The planned role is within Globus’s surgical-intelligence pillar: combining outcomes and analytics along the patient journey in what the company describes as a closed-loop model for continuous learning. That description sets out an integration strategy, rather than a reported clinical result.

A long-term outcome target, not a demonstrated result

David Paul, Globus’s founder and executive chairman, said the ultimate goal is 95% good outcomes at 10 years for all musculoskeletal surgeries. The company presented that figure as a long-term goal for its broader vision, not as an outcome already delivered by Higgs Boson’s technology or the combined organization.

The deal’s scale and timing remain open

Globus did not disclose a purchase price, transaction value or completion date. Those missing terms make it impossible to assess the acquisition’s financial scale or when the proposed software and team integration will occur; for now, the announcement establishes the direction rather than a completed operating change.
