Google Adds Gemini Connections for Work, Design and Everyday Tasks

A project plan, a website design and an apartment search can now begin from the same Gemini chat, rather than separate apps. Google said its new Connected Apps began rolling out on September 23, adding work, creative and lifestyle services to the Gemini app.

Google’s pitch is fewer switches between tabs: bring a service into Gemini, then ask for help with a task there. This wave reaches well beyond one kind of work. It includes tools for managing projects and databases, making visual assets and websites, and finding apartments or event tickets.

Which services are joining

The useful distinction is what someone wants to do, not how many names appear on the list. Google groups the additions into three categories, each with a different set of tasks:

• For productivity, Airtable, Linear, monday.com, PandaDoc, Wispr AI and Zoho cover tasks such as managing projects, organizing databases and dictating notes.
• For creative work, Adobe, Picsart, Squarespace and Webflow are the listed connections. Google describes uses including designing visual assets and building websites.
• For everyday tasks, apartments.com, Experian, Peloton and SeatGeek are listed for apartment searches, credit monitoring, workout planning and event tickets.

Those examples describe different jobs rather than one shared feature available in every service. An apartment search and a project update may both start in Gemini, but Google presents them as uses of different connected apps. The announcement does not detail the steps each service can complete inside a chat.

How a task reaches an app

Users can connect apps in Gemini settings, mention one in chat with @, or ask Gemini directly. The settings route lets someone choose services ahead of time. The chat routes let them bring up a service while making a request, instead of leaving the conversation to find it.

The September wave follows August’s

This is another round of Connected Apps, not the program’s debut. On August 12, Google announced additions spanning productivity and creativity, local services and entertainment, music, and home and health. That earlier group included meeting tools Granola and Otter.ai, dining service OpenTable in the UK, and music services iHeartRadio and Pandora.

The September list puts more emphasis on project tools, design services and personal tasks such as credit monitoring and workout planning. Together, the two announcements show Google adding categories of services to the same Gemini entry point over successive rollouts. They do not mean every listed service arrived on the same day.

A start date, but no finish date

Google says the new connections are beginning to roll out, but gives no completion date or service-by-service availability schedule. Someone looking for a particular app may need to check Gemini settings or try bringing it into chat. For now, the concrete change is a wider selection of tasks that can begin in Gemini; how smoothly each task carries through remains a question for use.
