Google Adds Monthly AI Training Modules for Educators, Sets September Badge-a-thon

Google is adding new modules to its Google AI Educator Series on the first Wednesday of every month and will host a free virtual Badge-a-thon on September 19. The move gives educators a recurring training path for using Google AI tools in classroom work, research and routine administration.

The series is a free, on-demand program designed to provide practical AI skills for educators. Google said it launched the program in May with ISTE+ASCD, giving the new September activity a place inside an existing educator-training effort rather than a standalone event.

A curriculum that keeps changing

Each monthly addition will include checks for understanding. That structure makes the program more than a library of short lessons: Google is setting a regular schedule for educators to revisit new uses of its tools and demonstrate comprehension as the curriculum grows.

Four routes into day-to-day work

The latest modules separate the training into concrete jobs, from handling a recurring communication task to supporting students as they work through a problem. Two modules are tailored to Gemini features, while another focuses on building an interactive lesson around real-world subject matter.

• A routine-work lesson covers automating tasks such as drafting parent notification emails through Google tools.
• Active Problem-Solving introduces Gemini Guided Learning for Socratic-style student support.
• Planning the Inquiry demonstrates Gemini Deep Research for higher-education research and inquiry projects.
• AI Quest: Market Marshes teaches game-based learning using topics that include human agency and flood forecasting.

A credentialing event, not just a lesson catalog

The September 19 Badge-a-thon is the live layer of the rollout. Participants can complete training, take quizzes and earn ISTE-aligned digital badges during the virtual event, which runs for 10 hours in Eastern Time.

Google’s training plan joins administrative automation with student-facing instruction in one program. The practical distinction is important: one lesson focuses on producing routine communications, while Guided Learning is positioned as Socratic support for students and Deep Research is aimed at higher-education inquiry projects.
