Google Gives More Free U.S. Users Gemini’s Daily Brief, but Requires Data Connections

Google began expanding Gemini’s Daily Brief to more free users in the United States on September 4. The morning digest can pull together Gmail, Calendar and Gemini context, but free users must enable Gemini Memory and connect Google Workspace data to use it.

That is a wider audience for a feature Google initially positioned for paying AI subscribers. At I/O in May, Google described Daily Brief as a personalized digest that organizes a user’s day ahead; it said the system works overnight on a user’s inbox, calendar and tasks, and learns preferences over time.

Daily Brief now generates a morning view from Gmail, Google Calendar, Gemini conversations and interests a user has stated. It is available through Gemini’s mobile app, web app and Gemini Live. The mechanism is different from a one-off chatbot answer: Google’s design is meant to select relevant details across services before a user asks a question.

The connected-app decision can cover more than the inputs named for Daily Brief. Google says Connected Apps data used by Gemini may include emails, files, events, saved searches, YouTube history, location information and inferences from that material. When Keep Activity is enabled, interactions involving Connected Apps may be used to improve Google services, including training generative AI models.

Who gets the free version

• Users must be 18 or older, in the U.S., using Gemini in English, and signed in with a personal Google Account.
• Work, school and supervised accounts are excluded.
• Daily Brief can be disabled in Gemini’s Personal Intelligence settings. Users can also manage connected apps and Gemini activity.

Google says a subset of Connected Apps interactions may be reviewed by trained human reviewers for debugging, safety and product improvement. The rollout is gradual, so even qualifying accounts may not receive Daily Brief immediately.
