Google Wires Gemini Live to Spark, Letting Voice Requests Run Across Its Apps

Google is turning Gemini Live from a voice conversation into a front end for work across its apps. Users can now speak a request that becomes a background Spark workflow, a Gmail action, a spoken Gmail-and-Calendar digest or a query using connected personal data.

The product’s mechanism is an automatic handoff rather than a menu of separate assistants. Google says users need not decide whether a request calls for Spark, Daily Brief or an inbox search. In its example, Gemini Live first gives a spoken view of the day, then passes a follow-up request to find email invitations, create family calendar events and add driving times to Spark while the conversation continues.

Spark is the long-running part of that chain. It can handle multi-step and scheduled work across Docs, Sheets, Drive and the web, retaining the user’s goal as it works. Google says those jobs can continue across days or weeks without the user actively using the app.

The shorter paths sit beside Spark

• Daily Brief turns Gmail and Calendar updates into a spoken summary.
• Hands-free Gmail can search, summarize, star, archive and delete messages.
• Personal Intelligence can draw on past conversations plus connected Gmail, Photos, Search and YouTube data.

Google’s examples show the intended split between creation and retrieval. Spark can turn spoken, unstructured ideas into a structured Google Docs outline. Personal Intelligence, meanwhile, is meant to answer questions using earlier chats and connected services, such as finding a restaurant from a past trip or a recipe discussed the day before.

Users must connect apps in Gemini’s Personal Intelligence settings and start Live from the Gemini app. That setup matters because the new functions combine account context with actions that can alter an inbox or leave a task running after the voice exchange ends. Google says 63% of Gemini users already speak to the product, giving the company a sizable existing behavior to build on.
