The agency says trained officers and analysts reviewed and verified the AI-generated results under its rules for processing data. In other words, the system narrowed the search and produced leads, but human personnel remained responsible for checking the output before it entered official databases or investigative workflows. INTERPOL says the identifications could enrich intelligence about suspected fighters, including possible locations and social networks. The operation was supported by the European Union-funded CT TECH Plus project, with backing from the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism. The important constraint is that the work is not finished: thousands of images remain, and further comparisons may generate additional leads.
