AI agents that write or modify integrations need somewhere to test their work before they touch real business systems. LocalStack’s acquisition of WonderTwin AI is a bet that those tests should happen in isolated local environments rather than against live APIs.
LocalStack acquired WonderTwin AI, a maker of local emulators for third-party applications; the companies did not disclose financial terms. WonderTwin’s software simulates services including GitHub, HubSpot, PostHog and Stripe, while LocalStack has focused on emulating cloud infrastructure such as AWS and Snowflake.
The practical target is the gap between an application’s own cloud setup and the outside services it depends on. Instead of giving every developer or automated agent access to a shared test system or a live service, LocalStack says the combined platform is intended to let each one validate cloud behavior and third-party integrations inside a separate local sandbox.
A local stand-in for a crowded testing environment
The acquisition addresses a testing constraint that becomes sharper when many people and agents work at once. LocalStack says conventional integration work often depends on live third-party applications or shared sandboxes, which can struggle with concurrent activity. Its proposed alternative is an on-demand, single-tenant environment: a dedicated test space for one developer or agent at a time.
What the combined setup is meant to change
The companies are presenting emulation as a way to move validation earlier in development. That does not establish that a simulated service will catch every problem that emerges in production. But it changes where teams can experiment: locally, with a service’s modeled behavior, rather than only after obtaining access to a live external system.

WonderTwin currently supports local emulation for more than two dozen applications, according to its founder, Tela Andrews. Andrews says she will lead LocalStack’s Application Emulator efforts, and describes the longer-term direction as “agentic full-stack emulation” spanning applications and cloud infrastructure. LocalStack says it is still working on a comprehensive experience that integrates those two layers and will share more information later.
That leaves the central test ahead: whether application emulators can provide a sufficiently useful stand-in for the changing services behind modern software. LocalStack has an existing base for the infrastructure side, saying it has more than 1,500 customers and hundreds of millions of Docker pulls. The WonderTwin deal extends that established local-development approach to the integrations surrounding the cloud application itself.
