The software package makes Quest easier to navigate and resume, but Meta AI begins as an opt-in feature for English speakers in the United States and Canada.

Meta’s Quest update is as much a retention and usability bet as an AI launch: Navigator replaces the feed-like Horizon Feed with a task-oriented home surface, while voice commands can operate core headset functions. The package arrives amid a weak hardware market—Counterpoint estimates VR shipments fell 17% year over year in Q1 2026—and heavy Reality Labs losses.
Navigator debuts with Horizon OS 85, combining apps, folders, recording, calls, playback, notifications and ongoing activities on one landing surface.
Meta AI is opt-in and initially limited to English-speaking users in the United States and Canada.
Privacy and reliability additions include access indicators, offline dictation, browser passkeys, malware checks and automatic app offloading.
Meta has moved Meta AI out of Quest’s experimental settings, giving users an opt-in voice assistant that can navigate the headset, its operating system, the store and apps. Access initially is limited to English-speaking users in the United States and Canada.
The assistant is part of a Quest software package Meta detailed on August 25. The other centerpiece is Navigator, a redesigned landing experience that replaces Horizon Feed as the default entry point, beginning with Horizon OS version 85.
Navigator puts the app library, recording, calls, playback, notifications and ongoing activities in the landing experience. Users can prioritize favorite apps and organize them into folders, shifting the first screen from a feed toward a place to pick up an activity.
Meta also added improved hand tracking, voice control paired with head gaze and offline voice dictation. Browser panels can reopen where they were left, while windows can snap to nearby walls and dynamically resize as they move.
Google added wall-pinned apps, session restoration, hand-tracking improvements and experimental 2D-to-3D conversion to Android XR on Samsung’s Galaxy XR in April. The overlap places Meta’s new interaction features in a wider contest to reduce the friction of using spatial-computing software.
Meta’s immediate test is whether the new interface and voice layer improve use of Quest after the headset is already in someone’s hands. Meta does not publicly break out Quest retention, app purchases or time spent, leaving no direct public measure of whether this package changes the economics behind Reality Labs’ broader investment.
