Meta says it has fixed a problem that led some Ray-Ban Meta glasses to save audio and transcripts without the expected “Hey, Meta” activation, but it has not explained the cause, repair, or number of devices affected. Reports from one owner covered three pairs, including second- and third-generation models, though the complaints do not establish the issue’s reach and Meta has not confirmed a reported link to a recent firmware update. Owners can review and delete saved voice logs, but that does not prevent recording.
The initial report described recordings despite “Respond without Hey Meta” being switched off.
Meta’s statement, reported by Android Authority, confirmed a fix but gave no technical details.

Conversations that wearers say they never asked their Ray-Ban Meta glasses to capture appeared as saved audio and transcripts in the Meta AI app. Meta says the issue is now resolved. But its response leaves owners without an explanation of what went wrong, how it was fixed or how many devices were affected.
A Reddit user posting as Kindly-Audience-137 said audio recordings and written transcripts of conversations appeared in their Meta AI conversation history without them saying “Hey, Meta.” According to Ars Technica, the user also said “Respond without Hey Meta” was switched off.
The user described the behavior on three pairs of glasses. TechRadar reported that these included second- and third-generation models, and that other participants in the discussion described similar experiences. Those accounts suggest the complaint was not confined to one pair, but they do not establish how widespread the issue was.
Kindly-Audience-137 said they first noticed the behavior after a recent firmware update—the software installed on the glasses. Meta has not confirmed that an update caused it. Android Authority, which covered the complaints and obtained Meta’s response, said it could not reproduce the problem before the company said it was fixed.
This issue has been resolved. People can manage, review, and delete voice logs of their interactions with Meta AI via settings at any time.
Meta, in a statement to Android Authority quoted by Ars Technica
Meta’s statement addressed the issue without describing its cause or the repair.
TechRadar says the glasses should ordinarily record these interactions after a spoken “Hey Meta” command or a button press. But it notes that Meta’s privacy notice allows for voice services being activated “inadvertently.” That notice describes a possibility; it does not identify the cause of this incident.
The same notice says some recordings may be reviewed by Meta staff to help improve its voice services, according to TechRadar.
For owners who want to inspect their own history, TechRadar provides a route to the voice activity log in the phone app. This is the place to review saved entries and delete recordings, rather than a control that prevents capture in the first place.
Some Reddit participants turned off voice activation for the AI as a workaround, TechRadar reported. That option is available from the app’s device settings.
