Microsoft’s November 4 Clarity update gives eligible merchants three ways to work with AI-mediated customer journeys: measure supported agents’ website activity, make products discoverable in Microsoft experiences, and investigate site behavior with AI-generated answers. The tools span agent tracking and product discovery that Microsoft calls globally available, subject to eligibility, while Ask Clarity remains in closed beta for retailers. For merchants, the practical shift is being able to test agent task completion and reach shoppers through AI recommendations without requiring an on-site chat assistant.
Agent Activity tracks supported agents from Google, OpenAI and Anthropic, including searches, logins, bookings and checkout; simulations initially cover commerce and travel.
Microsoft analyzed 5.23 million agent sessions across 230,511 projects from August 13 to September 9, 2026, and found weekly sessions nearly doubled to almost 2 million.
Eligible Shopify and WooCommerce merchants can surface products in Copilot, Bing and MSN through Brand Agents; purchases still complete on the merchant’s site.
Microsoft wants merchants to understand customers who send AI to shop for them—not just people who browse. Its November 4 Clarity update adds agent tracking, wider product discovery and answers drawn from website activity. But the reach is specific: tracking covers supported agents, while the question-answering feature remains in closed beta for retailers.
The coordinated release has three parts: Agentic Analytics, an update to Brand Agents and Ask Clarity. Microsoft describes Agentic Analytics and Brand Agents as globally available, subject to their supported agents and merchant eligibility. Clarity itself is free. Together, the capabilities address different steps: an assistant recommending a product, an agent trying to complete a task and a person navigating the website.
Microsoft’s starting problem is concrete: an agent might locate the right product but miss a promotion, or reach checkout and fail. The new Agent Activity dashboard shows which supported agents visit, how their traffic changes and what they do. Tracked activities include searches, form submissions, logins, downloads, appointment bookings and checkout.
The accompanying simulations let website owners test important tasks before a customer’s agent encounters a problem. Initial scenarios cover commerce and travel; Microsoft plans to add other customer journeys. Each assessment reports:
Support currently includes agent operators from Google, OpenAI and Anthropic. Microsoft’s own usage analysis supplies the backdrop: weekly agent sessions nearly doubled in three weeks, reaching almost 2 million. That finding came from 5.23 million agent sessions across 230,511 projects between August 13 and September 9, 2026—not a measurement of all shopping activity across the web.
Brand Agents began as an on-site shopping assistant grounded in a merchant’s live catalog, shipping and return policies, and brand voice. The update lets eligible WooCommerce and Shopify merchants surface products in Microsoft Copilot, Bing, MSN and other Microsoft experiences when shoppers ask AI for recommendations. Purchases still finish on the merchant’s website.
Businesses that already have Brand Agents installed need no additional catalog upload or configuration for that discovery extension. During setup, merchants can choose an on-site assistant or use Brand Agents only to make products discoverable across AI experiences. Access to the distribution feature therefore does not require offering shoppers a chat assistant on the storefront.
Microsoft is also extending Brand Agents to eligible WordPress local businesses. The assistant can help visitors select services, capture leads and book appointments through supported tools including Square, Jobber, HubSpot, Calendly, Housecall Pro and Salesforce. Setup requires installing Clarity, selecting Clarity with Brand Agents, publishing the agent and connecting a supported customer-management system.
Ask Clarity tackles the interpretation work. Microsoft says users can ask business questions, have the system explore explanations against their website data and receive recommended next steps. Findings link to relevant session recordings, allowing users to inspect the behavior behind an answer rather than receive only a written conclusion.
Its initial scope is website behavior: session recordings, heatmaps showing activity on pages, funnels tracking progress through steps, and on-site events. Microsoft illustrates the approach with a hypothetical conversion problem: weak sales in Europe might reflect untranslated pages or a market-specific delivery issue, rather than the pricing problem a merchant suspects.
Early feedback is encouraging but small: Microsoft says 14 of 16 surveyed early-access participants discovered something new about their business or website. That measures perceived usefulness, not answer accuracy. The company plans to add AI Visibility and advertising data as further sources; those extensions are future plans, not part of the current behavioral-analysis scope.
