Perplexity Adds AMD Ryzen AI Max Support to Its Local AI Agent on Windows

Owners of supported AMD Ryzen AI Max Windows PCs can now run Perplexity AI tasks and recurring workflows on their own hardware. Perplexity has brought its Portable Computer software to those systems, including AMD’s Ryzen AI Halo developer platform.

An AMD route for local agent work

Portable Computer combines a model with agent tools and controls for carrying out tasks. The AMD addition is a hardware option for that software, not a new agent product. It puts the workflow tools on supported Windows PCs whose processors are designed to handle local models alongside ordinary applications.

AMD says Ryzen AI Max combines CPU and graphics processing with a large pool of shared memory. Both can draw on that memory while a local model runs alongside other applications. Portable Computer supplies the software layer: its models, tools and controls turn that processing capacity toward AI tasks and repeatable workflows.

Check the system, not just the chip

The announcement specifies supported Ryzen AI Max Windows PCs, including the Ryzen AI Halo developer platform. It does not establish that every machine with a Ryzen AI Max processor qualifies. Anyone choosing a PC for Portable Computer should check whether the particular system is supported rather than relying on the processor name alone.

Local does not mean cloud-free

Portable Computer also offers the option to use cloud services when needed. That makes local processing a way to run eligible work on the PC, not a promise that every step of every workflow stays there. The credit benefit applies to inference on the user’s hardware; the announcement does not extend that claim to work sent to the cloud.
