The firm’s new fund is a focused early-stage pool of capital in a fundraising market where established managers have captured most of the money raised this year.

Reach Capital’s new vehicle is still an untested thesis: Fund V had no investments at disclosure, so its first checks will define what “human-centered” AI means across learning, health, and work. The firm plans to deploy $1 million–$10 million from the $265 million fund into about 50 pre-seed-to-Series A companies over three years. The close also shows a specialist manager attracting capital while established firms captured over 90% of approximately $62 billion raised through May.
Existing limited partners mostly reinvested, while several new investors joined; Reach says the fund closed in under six months.
Reach has backed more than 180 companies since 2015, including Replit, ClassDojo, and Coral Care.
Named Fund V backers include Capricorn Investment Group, Los Angeles Fire and Police Pensions, LEGO Foundation, and College Board.
Reach Capital has closed a $265 million fifth fund to invest in AI applications for learning, health and work. The raise gives the firm fresh capital for an explicitly sector-focused strategy as venture fundraising has tilted heavily toward established managers and specialized firms.
The firm frames its thesis as backing founders whose AI products “expand human potential.” Tony Wan, Reach Capital’s head of platform, described the intended boundary more directly: AI should support human flourishing rather than replace it. The mandate covers areas where AI products may shape how people learn, stay healthy and work.
Fund V is designed for companies from pre-seed through Series A, with individual investments of $1 million to $10 million. Reach expects to back about 50 companies over three years, giving it a broad enough target to support founders at several early points in a company’s development rather than concentrating the fund in a handful of bets.
Fund V had not backed any companies when Reach disclosed the fund. That leaves the practical expression of its AI thesis unresolved: the first investments will show which kinds of learning, health and work products the firm considers consistent with its stated human-centered approach.
The firm is not entering the market as a new manager. Reach says it has backed more than 180 companies since its 2015 founding; prior investments include Replit, ClassDojo and Coral Care. It previously raised $165 million for Fund III in 2021 and $215 million for Fund IV in 2023.
The close stands out against a U.S. venture market in which established firms captured more than 90% of roughly $62 billion raised through May, according to PitchBook and the National Venture Capital Association analysis cited by TechCrunch. That pattern has left first-time and midsize managers competing for a smaller share of available capital, while specialist funds have remained an alternative for limited partners.
General partner Jomayra Herrera said Reach raised Fund V in less than six months, with most existing limited partners reinvesting and several new investors joining. The immediate test is no longer fundraising. It is whether the fund’s first portfolio can turn a focused AI mandate across three consequential sectors into investments that meet its stated standard.
