Ripple adds embedded wallets for AI-agent payments through Stripe-owned Privy
The integration removes the need for separate wallet software. Existing agent-payment figures show millions of transactions, but comparatively small amounts changing hands.
Ripple’s agent-payment stack on the XRP Ledger is gaining an in-app wallet layer through its integration with Privy, which Stripe owns. Developers can embed wallet creation, approvals and transfers so agents can pay for online services without a separate wallet app. A new XRPL account still needs a 1 XRP reserve, even if it will send only stablecoins; planned policy controls and fee-covering tools are not yet available. Existing x402 activity predates the integration, so its transaction totals are not evidence of adoption of the new feature.

Privy’s integration supports XRP, Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin and other assets issued on the XRP Ledger.

XRPL AI Hub showed more than 14.3 million cumulative transactions across 169 registered merchants as of October 14, with about 6,991 XRP and 12,752 RLUSD paid.

RippleX engineering head J. Ayo Akinyele said the ledger had processed more than 13 million x402 payments, roughly 25% of ledger activity, before the integration.
Developers will be able to put funded crypto wallets inside payment apps and give AI agents a way to buy online services without sending users to separate wallet software. Ripple and Stripe-owned Privy announced the XRP Ledger integration, adding wallet infrastructure to Ripple’s existing tools for software that can hold and spend money.
The integration will support XRP, Ripple’s dollar-pegged RLUSD stablecoin and other assets issued on the network. According to a release shared with CoinDesk, developers can build wallet creation and transfer authorization into their products. That would let a payments app offer dollar-linked transfers without asking customers to manage the secret keys that authorize spending.
From developer tools to wallets inside apps
Ripple began supplying developers with agent-payment tools in June. Those tools let agents create wallets, check balances and pay for services in XRP or RLUSD. In September, Ripple extended the kit to support a payment standard developed by Stripe and payments blockchain Tempo. That update included a way to fund repeated requests with XRP rather than settle each request separately.
Privy supplies the wallet infrastructure that application builders would otherwise need to develop themselves. Its programmable wallets handle creation, user approvals and crypto payments inside applications, BeInCrypto reported. Users are not necessarily locked into that setup: Privy also supports exporting keys or a recovery phrase so a wallet can be moved elsewhere.
For agents, the relevant option is a wallet operated from a company’s servers. Privy’s documentation describes software holding and spending funds through these wallets, including through x402, a standard for paying for data and online services. An agent requesting paid data can receive a payment request, authorize the transfer and obtain the data after payment verification. A person need not open a checkout page for every request.
Millions of payments, small amounts
Agent payments were already taking place before the Privy announcement. RippleX engineering head J. Ayo Akinyele said on X the previous week that the ledger had processed more than 13 million payments through x402, roughly 25% of ledger activity. These are figures for the existing network, not results generated by the new wallet integration.
By October 14, the XRPL AI Hub dashboard, operated by payment-infrastructure developer t54, showed a higher cumulative count across 169 registered merchants, CoinDesk reported. The dashboard’s payment amounts were much less striking than its transaction total. Many payments were tiny, consistent with software purchasing individual requests rather than making large financial transfers.
The dashboard’s cumulative totals

XRPL AI Hub showed more than 14.3 million cumulative transactions as of October 14, according to CoinDesk.
Approximately 6,991 XRPXRP paid
The same dashboard recorded approximately 6,991 XRP in cumulative payments.
Approximately 12,752 RLUSDRLUSD paid
The dashboard also recorded approximately 12,752 RLUSD in cumulative payments.
Activation still needs XRP
Embedding a wallet does not make it ready to transact immediately. Privy’s documentation says each new XRP Ledger account must receive the network’s minimum reserve, currently 1 XRP, before it becomes active. Someone must supply that XRP even when the customer intends to send only dollar-pegged stablecoins. The integration removes separate wallet software, but not that initial funding step.
The companies say they will deepen the integration over time with policy controls and tools for covering users’ network fees. Those are planned additions, rather than completed features of this announcement. They address a different part of the payment process from wallet creation: setting policies around use and helping applications absorb network costs for their customers.
