Rocket Money’s Rowan Cancels Subscriptions by Text, Pushing Finance AI Into Action

Rocket Money has introduced Rowan, an AI agent that can text customers about potential savings and cancel a subscription or trial after they reply “cancel.” Built with Anthropic, Rowan puts a personal-finance assistant on the execution side of a customer instruction.

Rocket Money announced Rowan on Aug. 25. The agent continuously monitors a customer’s finances and sends a text when it finds a potential saving opportunity. In the company’s example, it contacts a customer three weeks into an unused free streaming trial, before the paid charge arrives.

A reply delegates the cancellation

1. Rowan identifies a potential saving opportunity and texts the customer.
2. The customer replies with an instruction, such as “cancel.”
3. Rowan contacts the service, cancels the subscription or trial, and confirms completion.

After that reply, the cancellation proceeds without further customer oversight, according to PYMNTS’ account of the product. That separates Rowan from a spending dashboard or an alert that still leaves the customer to contact a provider.

Savings automation raises the stakes

Cancellation is only one use. Rocket Money says Rowan can support bill negotiation and set automated savings rules. A customer can ask it to round coffee purchases to the next dollar and transfer the difference to a high-yield savings account, creating a rule that continues automatically.

That progression changes the permission a customer is granting. Ending an unwanted trial has a defined outcome; negotiating a bill or moving money into savings gives software an ongoing role in financial decisions. Whether users who accept a one-word cancellation flow will authorize those broader tasks remains the central open question for Rowan.
