Sol Raises $4M for Gmail Assistant That Starts Work From Email Commitments

Sol has emerged from stealth with $4 million in financing for an AI assistant that scans Gmail conversations for commitments and begins preparing the work behind them. Its premise is that a promise in an email can start an assistant without first becoming a task or a new prompt.

General Catalyst and Nexus Venture Partners led the round, with DeVC, Peercheque, and Kunal Shah participating. Sol said it will use the money for research and development and go-to-market initiatives.

Founded in August 2025 by Anish Karan, Prateek Srivastava, and Ranjith Nair, Sol contrasts its approach with assistants that wait for users to initiate a request. Its product starts with commitments and their context already embedded in email exchanges.

The inbox becomes the trigger

Sol says it can identify commitments to send a proposal, prepare a presentation, schedule a meeting, or follow up with a colleague. After finding one, it gathers context and prepares work across research, documents, presentations, email drafts, and scheduling workflows.

The distinction is more than a different route to generating text. Sol is designed to extract an instruction and its surrounding context from an existing exchange, instead of requiring someone to create a separate task or repeat the job in a prompt.

A boundary around final actions

The company’s stated boundary is approval: documents, emails, and meeting arrangements can be reviewed or edited before anything is sent, scheduled, or shared. Sol operates in its own computer environment, uses a browser, and draws on a library of more than 100 specialized skills to prepare that work.

Sol is targeting founders, executives, and people in sales, marketing, consulting, recruiting, and agencies. Those are roles the company identifies as managing large volumes of email and commitments across work tools.

A selective start

For now, Sol is available through selective access and a waitlist. The company plans to expand general availability later, making its next move a broader test of whether email-based preparation and a final approval step fit into professionals’ daily work.
