TV4 must rebuild the season’s edit after previously completed material disappeared in a technical failure, with the broadcaster saying the contestants and presenter Ahmed Berhan have been informed. Aftonbladet’s unnamed sources allege an AI agent deleted the project after being given access to a server, but TV4 has not confirmed AI involvement. The reported loss could mean several hundred days of work and hundreds of people working on the program again; no replacement premiere date has been set.
The planned November 22 premiere has been dropped, and TV4 now expects to release the season in 2027.
Mastiff CEO Matilda Snöwall declined to comment on Aftonbladet’s report and referred questions to TV4.
Berhan reportedly knew files were lost but was surprised when Aftonbladet raised the possibility that AI was responsible.
The next season of The Challenge Sverige will miss its November 22 premiere and move to 2027 after edited material disappeared in a technical failure. Swedish broadcaster TV4 says the season must be edited again. Aftonbladet’s sources blame an AI agent, but TV4 has not confirmed that account of the cause.
TV4 press representative Ludvig Ternstedt told Aftonbladet that the production had reported a technical breakdown. Material that had already been edited was gone, making a new edit necessary. The broadcaster has not set a replacement premiere date; its decision is to abandon the planned November launch and release the season next year.
The reported workload is substantial. An unnamed source told Aftonbladet that several hundred days of work had been lost and several hundred people would need to work on the program again.
TV4 said the contestants and presenter Ahmed Berhan had been informed of the technical failure.
In its October 14 report, Aftonbladet described a more specific chain of events. Citing sources, it said production company Mastiff allowed an AI agent onto a server. The agent then deleted the finished season, leaving no way to restore the editing project, according to those sources.
TV4 told the newspaper it was not aware of its information alleging AI involvement. Mastiff chief executive Matilda Snöwall declined to comment and referred questions to TV4.
TechRadar subsequently carried the AI allegation, explicitly tracing it to Aftonbladet’s sources. It also recounted Aftonbladet’s conversation with Berhan: the presenter knew about the lost files but reacted with surprise when the newspaper suggested AI was responsible.
