WildBrain is buying Personality AI, putting a generative-AI character business inside its family-entertainment and licensing operation. The deal closed on August 24, with about eleven million U.S. dollars in cash and one million WildBrain shares paid upfront. There is another two-million-dollar payment on the first anniversary, payable mostly in shares. But the largest potential payout comes later: up to fifty-six million dollars in cash if Personality AI reaches revenue targets in 2027, 2028, and 2029. The company’s proposition is not an open-ended chatbot. It creates conversational versions of licensed characters, with moderated interactions, age-appropriate knowledge bases, and privacy-by-design practices. Personality AI says it does not store or monetize children’s personal data, and participates in the FTC-approved PRIVO COPPA Safe Harbor Program. The clearest proof point is Hey Peppa Pig, developed with Hasbro and launched in December 2025 on Amazon Kids Plus, through Fire Kids tablets. Children can talk with Peppa Pig through games and activities. WildBrain now wants to extend that model across more characters, toys, apps, and platforms. Founder John Goscha will lead the business inside WildBrain. The company expects it to add to EBITDA in fiscal 2027, while acknowledging that integration, customer demand, and revenue opportunities may not arrive on schedule. The key question is whether one successful Peppa Pig deployment can become a repeatable licensed-product business by 2029.

Story brief

3 key points

The deal’s economics put most of the upside after closing: WildBrain is paying about US$11 million in cash and 1 million shares upfront, with up to US$56 million more tied to revenue targets through 2029. Personality AI’s child-focused, moderated character technology will remain led by founder John Goscha and expand beyond Hey Peppa Pig into licensed experiences across toys, apps, and platforms. WildBrain expects...

  1. 01

WildBrain acquired 100% of Personality AI’s shares, effective August 24.

  2. 02

Vendors receive US$2 million on the first anniversary, payable in up to 1 million WildBrain shares.

  3. 03

Hey Peppa Pig launched on Amazon Fire Kids tablets in December 2025 with Hasbro.

WildBrain has acquired Personality AI, bringing generative-AI technology for conversational licensed characters into its family-entertainment and licensing business. Hey Peppa Pig, a voice experience on Amazon Fire Kids tablets, offers a working example; the larger plan is to carry that format into more products and platforms.

WildBrain acquired 100% of Personality AI’s outstanding shares, effective August 24. Closing consideration includes approximately US$11 million in cash, subject to customary working-capital adjustments and holdbacks, plus 1 million WildBrain shares. Vendors will also receive US$2 million on the first anniversary of closing, payable in up to 1 million additional shares, with any remaining balance in cash.

Future revenue carries the larger payment

The agreement also allows up to US$56 million in performance-based cash consideration if Personality AI meets specified revenue targets in calendar years 2027, 2028 and 2029. The structure leaves a substantial portion of the possible payout dependent on whether the business can turn its character products into recurring revenue after closing.

The payment depends on Personality AI hitting revenue targets from 2027 through 2029.

A licensed character, not an open chatbot

The product proposition differs from a general-purpose chatbot. Personality AI creates interactive characters with generative AI for intellectual-property owners. WildBrain said the products are not open-ended platforms and are tested for safe interactions, while Personality AI markets its conversational character AIs as child-safe.

Personality AI says its approach uses moderated interactions, age-appropriate knowledge bases and privacy-by-design practices. It is part of the FTC-approved PRIVO COPPA Safe Harbor Program and says it does not store or monetize children’s personal data. Those safeguards are central to its product positioning for children and IP owners.

Peppa Pig shows the route to market

Amazon selected Personality AI in 2025 to develop a generative-AI platform for Amazon Kids+. Hey Peppa Pig launched in December 2025. Developed with Hasbro, it lets children talk with Peppa Pig through games and activities on Fire Kids tablets.

WildBrain and Personality AI plan to work with IP owners through licensing agreements on interactive experiences spanning toys, apps and platforms. The purchase is therefore not simply an internal production-tool acquisition: it is a stated effort to sell character interactions as a licensed product category across different consumer settings.

The deal now faces an integration test

John Goscha, Personality AI’s founder and chief executive, will join WildBrain as executive vice president of Personality AI, alongside his team. WildBrain expects the business to be EBITDA accretive in fiscal 2027, but cautioned that integration, customer relationships, expected synergies and revenue opportunities may not develop on schedule or at all.

The Peppa Pig deployment demonstrates that Personality AI has brought a licensed character experience to Amazon Kids+. The unresolved commercial question is whether WildBrain can repeat that model across enough properties and consumer products to meet the revenue goals embedded in the earnout.
