The company is also taking its Amazon affiliate program beyond the U.S. A wrong tag could put a creator’s credibility at risk.

YouTube is adding automatic AI product tags to creator videos as part of a shopping update, while extending its Amazon affiliate program beyond the U.S. The expansion may make affiliate participation available to more creators, but the company’s stated earnings goal is not evidence of higher income. Unlike thumbnail experiments or Ask Studio feedback, product labels attach shopping claims to finished work; a mismatch could be attributed to the creator.
Creators have run more than 40 million title and thumbnail A/B tests since that feature officially launched in 2024; this does not measure product-tag accuracy.
Ask Studio can monitor older videos and set up thumbnail tests, but only with creator permission.
An incorrect product tag could affect a creator’s credibility, though the article reports no documented tagging failures.
A shopping label on a creator’s video may soon come from YouTube rather than the creator. The company says it will use AI to tag products automatically, aiming to help creators earn through affiliate programs. It is also expanding its Amazon affiliate program beyond the U.S. The potential benefit is easier access to affiliate earnings; the risk is that an incorrect label appears alongside someone else’s work.
YouTube is introducing the tags alongside tools that help creators decide how to present videos. With dynamic thumbnails, a creator can supply three images and YouTube can recommend different ones to different audience segments. Ask Studio can give feedback on a draft’s pacing, structure and storytelling. Those tools shape a video or its preview. Product tagging instead adds shopping information to content a creator has made, so the AI’s choice needs to describe the right product, not just draw a click.
There is a useful difference in creator control, too. YouTube says Ask Studio can monitor thumbnails on older videos and set up tests if the creator gives permission. The shopping plan, by contrast, is described as automatic tagging. That distinction makes product accuracy more than a question of whether AI can save creators time: a tag is information viewers may take to be associated with the creator’s recommendation.
YouTube says creators have run more than 40 million title and thumbnail A/B tests since the feature’s official launch in 2024. That measures use of a presentation tool, not the accuracy of AI product tags.
The Amazon affiliate expansion changes the geographic reach of one shopping program; automatic tagging changes how products are labeled. They are related parts of YouTube’s shopping update, but not the same feature. Taking a program beyond the U.S. could give more creators an affiliate option, while AI tagging is intended to support earnings from such programs. YouTube’s stated aim is not evidence that the tags have increased anyone’s income.
TechCrunch notes that some creators worry an AI-generated mistake could harm their credibility. An incorrect product tag would bring that concern into the shopping information attached to a video: viewers might associate a mismatched label with the creator even if YouTube supplied it. That is a possible cost of the plan, not a documented failure of the tagging feature. Whether the labels are accurate enough to earn creators’ trust will matter as much as the convenience of applying them automatically.
