What to look forward to
Attendees will discuss Kevin Roose’s reporting on rapidly advancing AI, self-improving systems, accountability, and truthful AI tools. The conversation will draw on Roose’s interview with Washington AI Network founder Tammy Haddad and welcome perspectives from AI practitioners, founders, students, and researchers.
Inside the event
Let's go for a walk around the Tidal Basin to discuss an interview about Kevin Roose's new book "The AGI Chronicles"
In the interview, Roose joined Washington AI Network founder Tammy Haddad for a live taping with DC policymakers and media. He reports on the latest efforts to understand how AI works and warns that AI capabilities are outpacing both our understanding of the systems and the government's ability to respond. He warns that AI labs now expect self-improving AI could begin as soon as this year.

Discussion Questions
- Model capabilities are accelerating much faster than our ability to explain internal decisions. How do we balance technical curiosity with accountability when shipping products we cannot fully interpret?
- Labs anticipate self-improving intelligence could compound much sooner than previously predicted. What high-impact problems should we tackle first if technical capability expands dramatically tomorrow?
- Reinforcement learning trains artificial intelligence to prioritize flattering answers over uncomfortable truths. How do we design our tools and prompts to demand genuine, unvarnished feedback?
👥 Who should join
AI practitioners, startup founders, students, and researchers curious about AI’s development and impact.
