Astra is pausing new subscriptions to its $200 Pro plan, drawing a line between people who already have accounts and those seeking to join the service’s most system-intensive offering. The company says current accounts will not be affected as it responds to unusually high demand.
Tibo said the $200 Pro subscriptions create the greatest strain on Astra’s systems. He described the restriction as the smallest step the company could take while trying to maintain an “incredible experience” and continued access for current users. The change is a limit on new Pro subscriptions, not a change to existing accounts.
These put the most strain on our systems and we wanted to take the smallest step that allows us to continue giving the broadest access possible.
Tibo, on Astra’s $200 Pro plan
What the pause leaves open
- Existing Astra accounts are unaffected.
- Other Astra subscription plans remain available.
- API access remains available.
That division is the practical shape of Astra’s response. A current account holder is outside the announced restriction, while a prospective customer cannot start a new $200 Pro subscription. People can still use other plans or the API, according to Tibo. Astra is therefore narrowing one enrollment route rather than closing access across its products.
Tibo characterized demand for Astra as unprecedented and said the company was pulling “all the levers possible” to sustain it. He also said Astra is working to add capacity as quickly as it can. That makes capacity expansion the company’s stated response to the system pressure behind the Pro-plan pause.
For people considering the $200 Pro plan, the immediate outcome is straightforward: new subscriptions are paused. For existing users, Astra’s promise is continuity. The announcement puts the company’s near-term priority on maintaining access for people already in the service while it works to increase system capacity.
