Google Adds a Talking Artifact Guide and Art Memory Game to Arts & Culture

A museum visit on Google Arts & Culture can now mean questioning a 3D artifact while turning it on-screen—or trying to remember where paintings hung after a gallery is scrambled. Google Arts & Culture Lab introduced The Talking Museum and Museum Memory on September 24 as two new interactive experiences.

An artifact in the study room

The Talking Museum contains more than 190 3D cultural artifacts from Google Arts & Culture partners, with objects spanning prehistoric times to the present. Visitors can browse by size, material or era before choosing one to bring into a virtual study room. That selection step gives people a way to start with an object that catches their interest, whether it is its scale, what it is made of or when it comes from.

Inside the study room, visitors can rotate an object for a full 360-degree view and zoom in on its details. Marked points of interest offer another route through the artifact. Gemini-powered audio commentary supplies background, and visitors can ask questions as they examine the piece. The experience pairs those controls with an AI account of the object, so a visitor can move between looking closely and asking about what they see.

Remember the gallery, then rebuild it

Museum Memory starts by showing players paintings hung in a virtual exhibition. They get time to study each work’s position before the arrangement is scrambled. Their task is to put the paintings back where they were. The game depends on observing the gallery first: once the paintings move, the player has to work from memory rather than follow a guide to the correct spot.

Google presents the game as a way to practice visual recall while discovering artworks. Its challenge is deliberately tied to the exhibition itself: players need to notice both the paintings and their placement to restore the display. Google directs visitors to its Arts & Culture site to try the two experiences.
