Meta is acquiring Swedish AI startup Stilla.ai as it builds out AI products for businesses. Stilla said it is joining Meta to strengthen the company’s business AI offerings; secondary reporting says the transaction is still awaiting finalization and Stilla’s team and technology are expected to join Meta at closing.
An agent built around company context
Stilla describes its product as a multiplayer AI agent for teams and companies. It says the platform connects the tools a team already uses, captures relevant context, and turns that context into work that is subject to approval.
The company cited uses ranging from building products for supply chains to scaling employee onboarding and monitoring an investment portfolio. Stilla says its service will continue after it joins Meta, a notable assurance for customers whose teams use the agent for mission-critical work.
From customer messages to completed sales
That destination is Meta Business Agent, which Meta introduced on June 3 for WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram. Meta says more than one million businesses were already using the agent on WhatsApp and Messenger, and it has since expanded the product to Instagram and businesses globally.
What Meta says the agent can do
- Answer business-specific questions and recommend products from a catalog.
- Book appointments, qualify leads and close sales.
- Hand a conversation to a staff member when the business chooses.
Meta also offers a Business Agent Platform for companies that want to build, customize and deploy agents at scale. Meta says it can connect to hundreds of systems, including Shopify, Zendesk and Shopee, while providing enterprise controls, guardrails and measurement tools.
A small acquisition inside a paid-product plan
Founded in 2024, Stilla raised $5 million in pre-seed funding. The reported integration plan focuses on its people and technology. Meta has said Business Agent can be activated on Instagram for free, with paid subscription offerings planned in the coming months.
The acquisition therefore adds a team whose product is designed to work from internal business context to a product already aimed at the customer-facing edge of a business. Whether Meta keeps Stilla’s service operating over time, and how its technology appears in Business Agent, remain open questions.
