Napster and GEMS Partner to Pilot AI Teacher Twins

Napster and GEMS Education are partnering to develop and pilot AI agents and digital teacher personas for education. The proposed teacher twins would draw on educators’ own knowledge and materials to offer students approved, teacher-informed help outside school hours.

The companies announced the partnership on September 16. Its first phase will be based at the GEMS School of Research & Innovation, where the GEMS Global Education AI Hub and GEMS Intelligence 360 platform will serve as a setting for educators, students and partners to co-design, test and evaluate the systems.

The planned proof-of-concept work covers digitalized instructors, gamified learning, AI-assisted content creation and classroom simulations. Napster and GEMS are targeting a working solution and release before the end of 2026, with a longer-term goal of deployment across GEMS schools in the Middle East and beyond.

How the teacher twins are intended to work

• They would be built from teachers’ subject-matter knowledge, materials, courses and papers.
• Students would get on-demand access to approved content and teacher-informed expertise outside school hours, including in multiple languages.
• Napster says teachers could receive insights into student questions and where added support may be needed.

The partners say the initiative is designed to extend teachers’ reach rather than replace them. Their announcement says guardrails and safety protocols will be part of design, development and evaluation, with humans informed and able to intervene when needed.

GEMS and Napster say they will assess participant usage and engagement to gauge the utility of AI applications and their support for educational outcomes. Napster also says it will not train its AI models on user data, and that student data can remain in-country or sit on customer servers where required. Those commitments and the evaluation remain prospective: the pilot has not yet produced results.
