A more useful question

24guided professions

538source tasks to inspect

Most jobs combine many kinds of work: preparing a document, understanding a person, checking a result, making a decision. AI can change one part of that mix without doing the whole job.

We made this exploration to make those parts visible. You can inspect official task descriptions, build an arithmetic scenario for your own day, and practice the checks that turn a plausible draft into something useful.

Three things, kept distinct: O*NET describes occupational tasks. Anthropic’s public data describes observed Claude use. Our exercises teach verification with fictional inputs and deliberately flawed outputs. None is a prediction about an individual’s employment.

Start with a familiar profession. Follow a task all the way from a brief to a reviewed result. Inspect the research →

Adjust your scenario

Start with our example. Adjust any time or tick the tasks you would try with AI.

The example assumes 2× drafting speed. Adjust it, or try 1× for no speedup.

Include checking facts, revisions, and handoff. If the draft is unusable, the actual cost can be higher.

Prefilled times and assistance choices are editorial examples, not occupational time-use data. For checked tasks, model AI help with drafting or preparation; human decisions and physical work still need a person. Changing profession loads its example. All inputs are adjustable. Formula for checked tasks: original minutes ÷ assumed speed + review minutes. Other tasks keep their original duration. No inference is made from Claude usage percentages.

behind the work.

This is a dated research snapshot, reviewed October 7, 2026. We joined exact O*NET occupation codes and task IDs to Anthropic’s published global Claude chat/Cowork cells for May 2026, from its June 26 release. API and country-specific records are excluded. Source thresholds suppress some cells; a missing match stays unknown.

The guided professions are an editorial selection, not an employment census. Each retains every task from O*NET 31.0; the first five are ordered by published conversation share where available. Statements have their own source-update dates. Physical tasks appearing in Claude data may reflect discussion, learning, or planning, rather than physical execution.

Benchmarks answer a different question: can a system complete specified tasks under a defined evaluation? METR’s task horizons are useful capability evidence, but they do not turn a job’s task list into a measured workday. We do not combine benchmark results, observed use, and illustrative scenarios into one score.

Collaboration categories describe interaction patterns. We do not translate them into job-risk scores or success probabilities. Workday durations, speed assumptions, and review overhead are visitor-adjustable illustrations. The review room contains constructed exercises, not model evaluations.

O*NET material is adapted under CC BY 4.0. Anthropic releases its data under CC-BY; its documentation does not specify a version. The downloads retain both attributions and a transformation manifest. Neither source endorses this page.

US occupational descriptions and task statements. We retain exact occupation codes and task IDs; short profession labels are ours.

Anthropic Economic Index · June 2026 release

May 2026, global Claude chat and Cowork aggregates. Published collaboration classifications describe use patterns; they do not establish success.

Anthropic data dictionary

Definitions, sample thresholds, and missing-cell rules. The collection period ends June 1, exclusive.

Anthropic report: Cadences

Research context and methodological limitations. These data reflect Claude usage and US occupational categories, not the entire world of work.

METR task-completion time horizons

Independent capability measurements on specified tasks, with success thresholds and uncertainty. A benchmark task horizon is not a prediction of how long AI can do an arbitrary job.

Questions worth asking.

Which parts of my job can AI help with?

Start with a task, its inputs, and a way to check the output. This explorer combines official task descriptions, observed Claude use, and constructed learning exercises. It does not certify any task as fully automatable.

Does AI usage mean a job will disappear?

No. A conversation classified to an occupational task is evidence of use, not evidence of job replacement, task success, or employer adoption. Jobs also include relationships, responsibility, physical work, and context that a conversation may not capture.

Are the workday savings measured?

No. Each profession starts with an editable editorial example, not measured task times or productivity data. Adjust the prefilled durations, AI-assisted tasks, drafting-speed assumption, and review time. The result is arithmetic from those assumptions. Review can erase the saving or make a task take longer.

Are the review-room examples actual model test results?

No. They are original constructed exercises with deliberately flawed sample outputs. Their purpose is to teach verification. They are not transcripts, benchmark scores, or estimates of how often models make these errors.

Where do the occupation and task numbers come from?

O*NET 31.0 provides the occupation and task descriptions. The observed-use view joins exact identifiers to Anthropic’s June 26, 2026 release, restricted to global Claude chat and Cowork data collected in May 2026. Missing data stays unknown.
