Kapital plans to use Woz’s AI engineering capabilities to build financial products on top of its proprietary data and banking infrastructure, extending its OctavIA suite. The companies announced a $30 million cash-and-stock acquisition agreement on October 19, 2026; it has not closed. Woz’s full development team is expected to join Kapital, and the bank plans to expand its San Francisco team over the next year.
Woz co-founder Ben Collins is slated to become Kapital’s Head of AI, while co-founder Brad Eckert is slated to become CTO.
Kapital says OctavIA already powers live scoring, underwriting, risk, and customer-intelligence systems.
Woz’s WOZCODE augments models from Anthropic and OpenAI; Woz claims customers have saved more than $2.5 million since launch.
Kapital would bring an entire AI development team into its banking business under a $30 million cash-and-stock agreement to acquire Woz. Announced October 19, 2026, the deal pairs a startup building AI coding tools with a financial institution that wants to develop models and products specifically for enterprise finance.
The planned combination includes Woz’s technology as well as its engineers. Kapital says it will bring that expertise together with its proprietary financial data and banking infrastructure. The announcement describes an agreement to acquire Woz, not a completed purchase.
Woz’s full AI development team will join Kapital as part of the transaction. Kapital also plans to keep growing the San Francisco-based team over the next year. The agreement assigns both Woz co-founders senior roles at the buyer, putting them in charge of the planned financial-services development work.
Woz co-founder and CEO Ben Collins will join Kapital as Head of AI.
Woz co-founder and CTO Brad Eckert will become Kapital’s Chief Technology Officer.
Collins framed access to Kapital’s data as a central attraction. In the announcement, he said combining that data with Woz’s tools, technology and AI expertise offered potential for more intelligent financial operations. That is the incoming leadership’s case for the combination, rather than a result already delivered by the deal.
Woz builds tools for AI-assisted software development. Its flagship product, WOZCODE, augments coding models from Anthropic and OpenAI using what the company describes as patented token-reduction technology. The product works with those companies’ models; the announcement does not describe it as a replacement model.
Woz says its approach makes those models faster, cheaper and higher-performing. It markets the tools to individual developers, startups and enterprise engineering teams, and says customers have saved more than $2.5 million since launch. Those performance and savings figures are company-supplied claims.
At Kapital, the stated assignment goes beyond coding assistance. The company plans to develop AI models and products for enterprise financial applications, extending its existing OctavIA suite. Kapital says that suite already powers live scoring systems, underwriting, risk and customer intelligence.
