Specs Intelligence is meant to turn data from selected apps into proactive help, raising the stakes from what the glasses display to what the assistant knows.

Snap is testing whether premium hardware and context-aware software can reinforce each other: its $2,195 Specs glasses are slated for fall, while Specs Intelligence is already available on iPhone and Mac. The assistant organizes data from user-selected apps into areas such as work and family, then uses that context for tasks like travel planning and answers. The strategy creates a key tradeoff: more proactive help requires broader access to personal routines and relationships.
Specs Intelligence is available now on iPhone and Mac; the glasses are expected to ship this fall.
Specs supports calls, media, capture, translation, streaming, games, and augmented-reality work experiences.
Snap says an LED signals active capture, while representatives say Specs does not use facial recognition or ambient recording.
Snap has paired its $2,195 augmented-reality glasses with a new assistant designed to learn from the parts of a person’s digital life they choose to connect. The glasses are expected to ship this fall; Specs Intelligence is available now on iPhone and Mac and is designed to work with Specs when they ship.
The coordinated release gives Snap two connected bets. Specs is the visible computing device: a display-equipped pair of glasses for calls, media, photos, video, translation, games, and augmented activities. Specs Intelligence is the less visible layer, intended to use information from selected apps and tools to anticipate what a user may want next.
Snap calls Specs Intelligence “anticipatory AI.” The company says it organizes information into corners such as work, family, and goals, then uses the connected services to form an understanding of a person’s goals, priorities, relationships, and routines. It can help find a hotel, book travel plans, and answer questions, according to Snap.
“builds an understanding of your goals, priorities, relationships, and routines from the apps and tools you choose to connect.”
Snap, describing Specs Intelligence
That design makes the choice of connected apps central to the product. Snap frames the system around user-selected tools, but its usefulness depends on collecting enough context to make suggestions about travel, questions, and other day-to-day tasks. The release therefore asks users to weigh proactive help against the breadth of personal information an assistant needs to be useful.
Specs itself is being pitched as both a personal device and a work tool. It supports Bluetooth calls, Spotify, photo and video capture, and video streaming from services including YouTube and HBO Max. For speech in another language, it can provide real-time translation through its speakers and as text on its display.
The glasses’ cameras bring a separate social test. Snap says an LED lights up when Specs is taking a photo or actively capturing video. Company representatives also say the glasses do not record the world to understand it and do not use facial recognition to identify people.
Those limits describe what Snap says the cameras are designed to do. Meanwhile, Specs Intelligence shifts the more consequential data question toward the wearer: not whether the glasses identify strangers, but how much of the wearer’s own connected life should be available to an assistant that is supposed to act ahead of a request. Snap’s fall shipping target will test whether a premium wearable and that deeper software relationship make a compelling package together.
